In a village in the Somali desert, Mamargade is a single father. He has several odd jobs to make ends meet and send his son, Cigaal, to school. Cigaal is a gifted boy who tries to tell his dreams to anyone who will listen. Mamargade's sister, Araweelo, lives with them after separating from her husband. This blended family supports each other despite their disagreements. THE VILLAGE NEXT TO PARADISE depicts the daily life of a family affected by Somalia's political situation and climate change. In his first feature-length fiction film, director Mo Harawe praises solidarity.
