SOUS LES FIGUES (UNDER THE FIG TREE)

In the north-west of Tunisia, a group of seasonal workers set out at dawn to harvest figs in order to pay their tuition and support their families. As they harvest, Melek and the other young women talk about life, love and the future until sun set, while an older, more reserved generation watches. In a closed-door setting in an orchard, director Erige Sehiri portrays a youth, their dreams and hopes, but also highlights an intergenerational divide. For one day, UNDER THE FIG TREE becomes the stage for Tunisian rural society.
