MEMORY OF PRINCESS MUMBI

In 2093, Kuve, a young filmmaker, travels to Umata to shoot a documentary about the Great War that took place two decades earlier and its current impact on the population. Expecting to meet people marked by depression, he instead discovers a very different reality. To build his narrative, he casts Mumbi as an actress, who challenges his simplistic and subjective storytelling. A romance develops between them. Blending romantic adventure fable and mockumentary, in MEMORY OF PRINCESS MUMBI, filmmaker Damien Hauser explores the postcolonial cinematic gaze, the reliability of narration, and human creativity in the face of AI.
